A bill that would grant funds to state and local initiatives that would combat human trafficking and support survivors of trafficking was introduced to the Senate on December 22nd, 2009. The senate bill, S. 2925 was reported by the Committee on August 5th, 2010. On September 22nd , 2010 it was placed on the Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders. Calendar No. 581. Sponsored by Senator Ron Wyden [D-OR], the bill has received seven co-sponsors thus far.
Known as the Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act of 2009, bill S. 2925 is also in relation to House bill H. R. 5575, which is the Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act of 2010. H. R. 5575 would also establish a grant program to benefit domestic minor victims of sex trafficking. It was introduced to the House on June 23rd, 2010 and sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Maloney [D-NY14] and has received 26 co-sponsors to date.
