The long-haul trucking industry is notorious for taking advantage of those in desperate situations. From the CDL schools and the motor carriers who operate in such a manner, thousands are pulled in by the promises of big money by the trucking company owner operator lease purchase programs.
After having gone public about this consumer abuse within the industry nearly five years ago, the company truck lease purchase options are still going strong and continues to be a huge money-maker for the motor carrier.
I began the Owner Operator Lease Purchase Program Survey on November 9th, 2009 and brought it to a close on February 3rd, 2011. After nearly 15 months, 3,611 professional truck drivers responded, offering their own insight into these company truck leases.
After five and a half months, I have completed analyzing the data received. Several years ago, I had ran across an independent study by an accountant who showed that these programs had an 87% driver failure rate. This survey was performed in order to provide a more current, up-to-date evaluation on these company lease plans.
Unlike the other study, the results of this survey will never be taken down from the world wide web and will remain available for those considering becoming an owner operator through one of these trucking companies lease purchase options.
The survey results are provided by two means:
- PDF download
- Informational Website at : Trucking Company Lease Purchase Programs for Owner Operators
Although there are company lease drivers who have done well with these lease programs, this current survey still shows that the majority of these trucking company lease purchase programs are designed for the driver to fail.
Special thanks to all of the 3,611 drivers who took the time and made the effort to participate in this survey.
